ACCREDITATION AND STATE RECOGNITION
Since its establishment, HDBW – the Bavarian University for Business and Technology – has consistently aligned its Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes with the needs of industry, the expectations of its students, and the standards of academic scholarship. In doing so, the university upholds high quality benchmarks in both teaching and administration.
State recognition, along with the regularly renewed accreditations awarded by key accreditation agencies and public authorities, confirms that these standards are fully met – both for HDBW as an institution and for each of its individual degree programmes.
State Recognition of HDBW
HDBW – the Bavarian University for Business and Technology – is officially recognised by the Free State of Bavaria through the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts.
State recognition also means state regulation. Consequently, all of our degree programmes are governed by the Bavarian Higher Education Act. This provides the essential legal framework for officially recognised academic programmes and ensures that our qualifications are fully equivalent to those awarded by public universities.
Accreditation of HDBW by the German Council of Science and Humanities
HDBW, as a University of Applied Sciences, has successfully completed the accreditation process conducted by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat).
Higher education institutions are regularly assessed by this body in an extensive procedure during which their performance in teaching and research is reviewed to determine whether it meets recognised academic standards.
In 2025, HDBW was successfully re‑accredited for a further five years – for the period from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2033.
Accreditation of the Individual Degree Programmes
The degree programmes at the Bavarian University for Business and Technology (HDBW) are accredited either by ACQUIN or FIBAA:
- The Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute ACQUIN aims to contribute to the internationalisation and flexibilisation of German higher education, while also enhancing the efficiency of academic training.
ACQUIN carries out accreditation procedures across different types of higher education institutions and for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in all subject areas. In doing so, it seeks to ensure high academic quality, increase transparency within the education market, enhance the attractiveness of German universities for international students, and promote the comparability of academic qualifications. -
FIBAA is a European, internationally oriented agency specialising in quality assurance and quality development in higher education.
Two of HDBW’s Master’s programmes – Digital Business Modelling and Entrepreneurship and Cyber Security – have been directly programme‑accredited by FIBAA.
For the other Master’s programmes – Digital Factory and Operational Excellence, Digital Technologies, and the MBA – the accreditation process was likewise conducted by FIBAA; however, the accreditation itself is now awarded by the Accreditation Council Foundation (Stiftung Akkreditierungsrat).
