Why do a Pre-Master at HDBW?
The PRE-MASTER semester at HDBW Munich helps international students to specifically prepare for the requirements of a Master's programme at our German Unitversity of Applied Sciences.
Through content such as academic research and project management, academic standards are conveyed to enable successful and smooth collaboration in mixed Master's groups.
Additionally, the linguistic and cultural preparation not only strengthens integration into everyday student life but also improves prospects in the German job market.
Depending on the chosen Master's programme, the PRE-MASTER also imparts subject-specific fundamentals:
- For the Master's in Digital Business Modelling and Entrepreneurship: Management, Marketing, Finance and Accounting
- For the Master's in Digital Factory and Operational Excellence: Management, Finance and Accounting, Logistics and Production Management
- For the Master's in Cyber Security: Linux, Digital Technologies & Programming, Advanced Mathematics
Details on Pre-Master Semester
Application & Admission
As part of your application for a Master’s programme at HDBW, it will automatically be assessed whether you need to complete a Pre-Master Semester.
A separate application is not required – admission is granted together with your Master's programme.
Pre-Master Semester – Required or Not?
Mandatory for all with a Bachelor's degree obtained outside the EU.
A complete recognition is possible for those with a matching Bachelor's degree and more than 3 years of work experience.
Module Recognition
Depending on prior knowledge, recognition of individual modules is possible.
ECTS
No ECTS* are awarded per module, but a certificate with 'Passed' is issued.
Start Date
April & November.
2-3 weeks each after the official start of
- summer semester 15 March
or - winter semester 1 October.
Teaching Format
Predominantly in-person - with mandatory attendance.

Before beginning your Master’s programme at HDBW, three of the Pre-Master modules must be successfully completed.
The remaining modules can be finished during the course of your Master’s studies.
